It’s almost 2024. Do you know where 2023 went?
As we closed out 2022, we called it the Year of Uncertainty. Mark 2023 as the Year of Exhaustion.
Communications came back full steam this year, and then some, and we’ve all got the scars to show for it. Not to mention the sleep deprivation and emotional fatigue.
The hybrid work environment has left many employees wondering what happened to their culture. That prompted communicators to work even harder to show the company still had one.
The volatile nature of our politics and our profound social disagreements pushed many companies into taking a stand on those topics, even when their communicators didn’t have time to fully prepare them. More on that in ’24!
As if that wasn’t enough to fret over, along came artificial intelligence. AI began the year as a bit of a lark, quickly turned into a shiny object everyone had to have and has grown exponentially since then (it is, after all, AI). While communicators and their companies are tripping over one another to master it, fewer people are cautioning against it mastering us. More on that in the New Year.
From the Department of Be Careful What You Wish For, communicators are now front and center on most things, responsible, at least in part, for employee retention and recruitment, reputation, and how to get it all done better and faster.
Will 2024 be the Year of Something’s Got to Give? We’re about to find out, so get some rest. In the meantime, please enjoy our 10 favorite stories from this year.
